The Singapore dollar is denoted by the abbreviation SGD or so S$.

We exchanged a small part of the currency we had brought with us (American dollars) for a local one at the airport. Then, as needed, they did it already in the city.

You can exchange currency in Singapore at banks and exchange offices. But banks do not change currency everywhere. That is, you can walk through several institutions in a row on the same street (for example, in a business center) and no bank will offer currency exchange services, or you can only exchange a certain amount at a time (in some of the banks we changed only 800 $, since according to their internal rules it is no longer possible).

Therefore, exchange offices are preferable. They are found in all shopping centers and in places of active recreation for tourists (Sentosa, ethnic quarters). In exchange offices (called Money Changer), the rate is slightly higher than the bank and airport rates. In banks, the ratio is 1 USD / 1.25 SGD, and in exchangers 1USD / 1.26 SGD. That is, for 200 US dollars in the bank you will receive 250 local ones, and in the exchanger 252. All exchange offices operate exclusively under licenses that hang in a conspicuous place. It is completely safe to use them. The “assortment” of changeable money is large, I was pleasantly surprised that our rubles can be exchanged without any problems.

Another option is to withdraw cash from ATMs, but you yourself should find out in your bank whether the card supports this possibility.
